Description

The scientific name of Thyme essential oils is Thymus mongolicus and it belongs to the family of Labiatae. The thymus plants are cultivated to a large scale for the high thyme content and its strong flavour. This perennial herb is obtained from dividing or cutting the root sections of the plants. Oils from the Thyme is obtained by completely or partially drying the leaves or flower top or twigs of the thyme plants by the method of stem or water distillation. The key constituents of the Thyme oils are cymene, thymol, linalool, carvacrol, pinene and bornyle acetate. The colour of the oil varies from reddish brown to clear transparent to amber coloured. And the odour of the oil is sweet, strong and pleasant.
