Basil is originally found in India and is a robust annual plant. It is sometimes referred to as a cookery herb. It is a significant item of Italian cuisine and is also a key part of North East Asian cuisine. This oil is obtained by hydro distillation of Ocimum Basilicum, a fresh plant material. Basil oils are yellow coloured and appear as a transparent fluid.
It is considered as a potent antiseptic and is used generally for massages, baths and inhalation. It is specifically used for massaging skin. In Ayurveda, it is used to treat people suffering from emphysema and cough. In addition to that, basil oil is also used to reduce sports injuries, muscular aches and spasms.
